Burning Wood........

You know, it's been years.  But digging thru the archives I stumbled upon some stuff that would seriously make everyone laugh.  Music is the gift that will always give, no matter.  Here is some tracks that Taft & I threw together with Heather, and they turned out fantastic(IMO)!

Burning Wood - Imagine (Lennon)

Burning Wood - You were meant for me (Jewel)

Burning Wood - Killing me Softly (Fugees Cover)

George Carlin (May 12, 1937 - June 22, 2008)

George Carlin was an inspirational comedian, which is no easy feat in that business. He'll be missed. His standup act was at times outrageous, yet intelligent, insightful, and downright funny. People like this - and the others comedians we've lost over the past 10 years - don't come around too often.

Nokia...

Nokia candy bar phone.  I've had 3 phones prior to this one.  Our service is AT&T.  This is - hand down - the best phone you can buy on the market.  Period.  It's $20, gets reception all the time, and is as durable as a phone can get.

As you can probably tell, it's also the biggest hunk of shit you can buy.  It likes to multi-task.  A) hunk of shit, that B)fuctions properly.  All too common these days.

Don't get me wrong, I love technology and all the neat things that have hit the market in the past year or two, but the best bang for your buck?  Nokia candy bar phone.  Brooke and Alexe!?!?  Right, right?!?!

The common excuse I was given by the AT&T/Cingular representative at the time about the lack of reception of my other phones was this:

"They have been putting more towers around the area so you must be getting interference.  It'll be back in no time."

Right.  As a consumer, common acronymns thrown about are Global System for Mobile Communications("GSM") or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System("UTMS").

We just want to get to the point, not an excuse as to why our phone will or will not work "as well" as it should.  You provide a product and a service.  That service/product shouldn't be sold until it works properly.

SNAFU(Situation Normal: All Fucked Up) and it's BS("BullShit").

Nokia.  Get one.

Our first Anniversary celebratory expedition....

Today is Ash & I's One year anniversary!  It's absolutely crazy that it's been an entire year since getting married in Duck, NC.  So this past weekend, as a little celebration, I put together a sneaky outing.  She had no idea where we were going, but we started off in Middleburg, which she figured out quickly because it's a straight shot on Route 50 West.  Here's a bunch of photos:

At lunch in Middleburg, I think the place was called "Horse Tavern" or something like that.

After Middleburg we set out upon the second leg of our journey.  Ash thought we were staying around Middleburg, so when she inquired a couple of times as to where we were, I said the GPS stuck me on the wrong road and we were winding around a mountain back towards the Loudon County area.  The weather was perfect.

After about 45 minutes, we arrived to Charles Town Parkway (or something like that).  Once we crossed the West Virginia border she knew where we were going.  But I must admit, I was impressed I was able to keep it a secret for so long.  Ash was a great sport though and didn't pester me too much!

Here are a few more, so many photos in this post, sorry!

What a fun time we had.  We didn't lose too much money on the slots or horses, and actually we were ahead for most of the night.

The next morning, after having a ridiculously delicious homemade breakfast, we got on our way and stopped in Harpers Ferry.  The weather turned south, but that area was pretty cool.

We were completely wiped out the next day, but it was well worth it!  Thanks to everyone for being with us last year on this day.  1 year down!

It's late, and we're out

Ok!  Found some more photos of the Tomatoes!  As you can see they're mucho bigger than the photos I posted before!

You love the dryer background, admit it:

This is a photo I took of the moon

Come FLY away with me?

I took a couple of photos of these two flies sunning themselves on Sunday morning.  They'll live anywhere from a fortnight to 30 days.  Click the photo for a zoom-in:

The first and second photos are a bluebottle and the final is a greenbottle.

And since the weather is beautiful outside, here's a couple of photos I took of the surrounding foliage that is beginning to take form!  My manual photography needs a little bit of help and I'm researching my lense options!

And that's about it from this end.  I should be finished with Amy Lewetts website within the next week, and I'm also - again - continuing to plow away on our little slideshow from England.  Hope everyone is enjoying the blue sky and comfortable temps....don't worry, soon enough we'll be suffering in the humidity.

Happy B-day Granddad!!!!! CAPS, CAPS, CAPS!!!!!

Today is a special day.  My Granddad, Leonard Albert "Granddad" Ayres, would have been 102 today.  We miss him dearly.  He passed away 6 years ago, March 9th.  I've got my Guinness in hand, and Jagrmeister if need be......two of his favorite drinks!  Oy oy!  Look at the locks on me!

And for those of you interested, I went to my first Capitals game - yes, the sport Hockey, believe it or not, is still being played in North America - when I was 9 years old.  I've been an avid fan since I can remember.  In fact, my first playoff game was in 1989.  I've watched the highs and lows, and the current team has a buzz flowing throughout the metropolitan area.  Tickets - which were a dime-a-dozen in 2003 - now are waaaayy expensive and completely non-existent.  Needless to say, I'm sitting in my dungeon at the moment reveling in the fact that I'm watching hockey in April.....that means something.  Hoist one for me!

Also, here's a pizza I threw together from scratch.  It's my first attempt at a white pizza.  I try and make my own dough as much as possible which is the only way to go.  Once the dough is rolled out, scatter the garlic around your canvas and then bake (The garlic is finely chopped, drizzle some olive oil on top, and salt...keep chopping until it's nearly a paste.  Flip the knife horizontally and smush the garlic) for 4 minutes or so, then throw on the rest of the shit.  Go Caps!

And of Course some flowers and Sam.  Taken this evening.  Sam is confused, he was trying to catch flies.

Once again, Happy Birthday Granddad.  I'll always remember you watching hockey with me and being so impressed with the skill it took to play!  "Blimey!"  Also, your old friend Sweetpea is with Ash and I and we're spoiling her rotton!  Oy oy!

Mr. Coffee....Mr. Radar....

The title of this post is obvious to those who know it....it's from the movie "Spaceballs."  I saw it - or at least most of it - for the first time the other afternoon.

Below is a tree filled with squawking birds, Mr. Chevy C/K 1500 Silverado(on sale, send an offer!), and Mr. Sampson looking on as sweetpea sleeps on his bed.

And I'm really digging the Whigs.  A band I stumbled upon on Sirius the other day:

The Whigs - Right Hand on My Heart

And next Friday - literally one week to the hour from this evening - we'll be leaving for England on a British Airways 747, quite exciting.  We'll also be able to update from overseas and I hope to post pictures from Amsterdam as well as London.  We're very excited.

The Land of Green Ginger is one of the more intriguing, fun, and enjoyable reads I've stumbled upon lately.  The author wrote the screenplay for the Wizard of Oz, so essentially what you're getting here is a bit of fantasy.  It's a quick read, especially for you pothea....Harry Potter fans out there!

Fire by Fast Eddies.......

I was driving home from work not even an hour ago and traffic all of the sudden got heavy, alien spaceships - they could have been helicopters, but let's keep with the dramatics - were flying around, and there was smoke in the distance.  The shopping center located near Fairfax Circle was on fire.  I think Artie's and Fast Eddie's are Ok, but the rest?  I guess we'll find out, but it looks grim.

The joint was covered with firetrucks and onlookers.  Hopefully there were no serious injuries.

Valentine's with Ice.....

Ash & I had good fun last night.  First, I got home and made homemade Potato chips for Ash(Thoughts from whoever is reading this: "What the F#$! was he thinking?").  Just trying to find ways to the pregnant womans heart!

Second, I couldn't find a damn vase for her roses, so I hung them upside down on the Chandelier. Quite artsy fartsy huh?  And finally I ordered Thai from our favorite joint and downloaded some Van Morrison tunes to our Ipod.  Our first married Valentine's together and our very last by ourselves.  Weird.

The past couple of days have been cold, so here's some photos from my morning walk on Wednesday with the dogs.  As you can see, our maniac Lola on most mornings - regardless of the weather - fancies a swim.  She then parades around on the rest of her walk with ice clinging to her frizzy hair.

I never realized how pointy my nose looked.  To the weekend!

Tom's birthday, DC.......

Here are a couple of photos from this past weekend at Taft's house on Cathedral. Tom's very excited.

And here's Ash, drinking her seltzer water out of a delirium glass

She was a trooper this weekend!

Making dog food.....

The next few months are likely to be trying times in regards to making the dog food.  With smells and such beginning to bother Ashley's little nose, I'm having a bit of a difficult time figuring out when to make Sam & Lola's food.  We've been doing it for about 4 months - thanks to Chantal's recipe recommendation - and the results are fantastic.  Lola is about the most finicky eater I've ever come across and she has only missed one meal since I started making it(and that was due to too much of Sweet Peas food this past weekend). Here's a couple of photos from Sunday's batch:

6 cans of vegetables(no salt), 6 hard boiled eggs, 3lbs of well cooked ground meat(Turkey, Beef, Chicken), a tub of chicken liver, brown rice, salmon, garlic, and a few other secret ingredients.  You then freeze the containers and defrost them when needed.

It's comforting knowing what exactly is going into your dogs belly and the oils are fantastic for their coat.  Looks yummy, right?

The total cost this past weekend was $19.42.  This cost varies based on ingredients you have on hand, and this past weekend was a little more expensive than usual.  It makes 14 cans of food at 13.2 Ozs......the containers above are 750ml.

Friday night, silly people.....

A couple of ducks hanging out in the stream running by the area where I was testing for work.  I didn't win the Mega Millions last night, which was a complete surprise.  Ash & I met our neighbors and friends at the Marrakesh in DC for some Morrocan food and belly dancing.....very neat!  We then cruised over to the Brickskeller in DC, which has over 1,000 beers on hand.  The menu was daunting to say the least!

Here's Sam & Lo's at the creek today...from left to right, Lola in full speed, Sam watching minnows and Lola about to hop on Sam's head(click link for full size).

And finally, Lola waiting for Sweetpea to share her food.  This likely explains the reasoning behind Lola's funny tummy this morning as she's very dilligent and always seems to smell of cat food upon her return from the basement.

Ash & I are both reading books pertaining to pregnancy.  I, "The Expectant Father" and she "The Mother of All Pregnancy Books."  Mine is quite good.  I also just finshed a book called "Stiff" and "Eats, Shoots & Leaves."  I'll be linking all of this stuff up quite shortly.

And Happy Birthday Mr. Saunders......you're 30 today.  Pictures from tonight to be posted tomorrow!
